Among the suspects are a couple, Azizi Msami (54) and Hawa Msami (39) residents of Kinondoni.

They were nabbed in possession of 253 copies of a porn magazine titled 'Dimbwi la Mapenzi' and 49 copies of another one called 'Staili ya Mapenzi'."

The police said when the couple were questioned, each claimed the magazines were the property of the other.

Also in the police custody is Dismasi Lyasa (30),a resident of Ubungo. According to the police, he is a major publisher and distributor of hard pornographic magazines in Dar es Salaam.

"Porn magazines are a great embarrassment to the society," Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Commander Alfred Tibaigana said yesterday while informing the press about the arrests.

They were arrested in a special operation which began on September 2, this year.

"Hundreds of porn magazines have been confiscated in Dar es Salaam," he said.

In custody include Samora George Gomba (20),resident of Mbagala Kimbangure (he was caught with 16 magazines), Hamisi Mohamed (47), resident of Kurasini Highway (nine magazines), Abdallah Abdulkarim (28),(17 copies)and Issa Mwaisumo (33),resident of Kurasini (three copies).

Others are Yohana Paulo (24),resident of Sabasaba (20 copies) and Mohamedi Hamisi (31),resident of Magomeni (15 copies), Theophil Masanduku (29),(19 copies) and Dismasi Lyasa (30) resident of Ubungo, who is claimed to be a publisher and distributor of porn magazines.

In the meantime, Tibaigana yesterday ordered distributors and sellers of porn magazines to surrender all the copies at the nearest Police Stations.

"Surrender all the porn magazines in your possession before the police find them," he said. he also urged members of public to stop buying such materials saying they were harmful to the society.
