Sunset Thomas was born Diane Fowler on February 19, 1972 in Sikeston, Missouri, USA.
Sunset spent her teenager years in Daytona Beach, Florida. Thomas was deeply affected by the departure of her father from her life, and she tried to fill the void left by her father by engaging in several high school activities, such as partying. Thomas has confessed in front of television cameras that she needs sex constantly. After her high school days were over, she moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, where she performed a variety of jobs, among them, modeling aside the championship trophy after the annual NASCAR race held there was over. In Ft. Lauderdale, she met aspiring porn actor Zach Thomas. Zach and Sunset became friends quickly, and their friendship soon turned into love. Five months later, they got married and moved to Los Angeles, where both of them would find porn film fame. The Thomases were dedicated to making amateur porn movies portraying themselves. In 1995 Sunset Thomas got her first shot at porn film industry stardom when she appeared in that year's AVN Awards. Her first professional porn movie was 1996's Once in a Lifetime. Later on that year, she was again invited to host the porn industry's film awards. Thomas established a friendship with Howard Stern during 2002, which was also the year that she moved to Carson City, Nevada to begin offering her sex services for money at the famed Moonlight Bunny Ranch brothel. She and Stern filmed the first of Stern's shows on February 21 of that year, and she has returned more than ten times since then. She was also featured on The O'Reilly Factor. In 2002, Thomas spoke publicly about her sex life in an HBO documentary titled Cathouse, and, in 2003, she appeared in a sequel to the documentary.
